T-Mobile DriveSmart allows you to block calls, texts while driving

There are a plethora of mobile services out there from various carriers from GPS and productivity apps to entertainment apps. T-Mobile has added to their gamete of services with their latest offering called DriveSmart. Currently, the app is offered on the carrier’s Android based Optimus T, though it will soon be available on other handsets.

“With our blazing fast network speeds, T-Mobile customers can do more on their phones than ever before while on the go,” said Torrie Dorrell, vice president of applications, content and games, T-Mobile USA. “We feel strongly that with this freedom comes the responsibility to use their phones only when it is safe to do so. The T-Mobile DriveSmart Plus application is designed to keep our customers, their loved ones and the road safe.”

For $4.99 a month, one can add the service to every line on any single account, and gain peace of mind when driving, or when their loved ones are driving. Phones so equipped are able to detect when a car is moving at ‘car-like speeds’, and automatically handle incoming calls and messages by routing phone calls directly to voicemail, and responding to texts via a canned response.

Drivers can override the feature if they so desire, but the service can be set to notify parents via text or email when it i overridden by children.
