Hyundai Equus
When our friends come up to us asking what affordable mid-size sedan car we would recommend them, the first car that pops into our mind is the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The new Sonata has become a viable competitor to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry and seems to offer better looks and more bang for your buck. The same can be said for the new 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

Of course, much of Hyundai’s image improvement is credited to the Genesis and Genesis Coupe – but the firm is now confident enough to offer the world a $50,000+ large luxury sedan – the Hyundai Equus.

Recently, one of my friends went and test drove a Sonata after I recommended the sedan and came back and said “I still can’t get over the fact that it’s Hyundai and not a Honda.”

With that in mind, I figured we’d pop the question to our visitors. Regardless of how much Hyundai has evolved over the past couple of years, would drive one?

    yes

No, I would not. When I hear Hyundai I think cheap econo box. I think they should have developed another brand to sell the Equus and Genesis

I was never that much of a Hyundai fan until recently, and the new designs are on fire and the cars seem to be much better quality-wise than their predecessors, so I would say yes, I would totally drive a Hyundai, especially the new Sonata and Tucson, and the Genesis Coupe.

YES, THE COMPANY AND IT’S CARS HAVE EVOLVED. THE JAPANESE HAVE BECOME DULL AND OLD.

  • Djbrun

    I already do.

Nope – they built crap & knew it so now that they wanna change their minds … everyone is supposed to forget? It’s gonna be a while before people stop saying “It’s still a Hyundai”

Now if they made a luxury brand … then I might consider.

Shouldn’t the question be, “Are you buying the name or the car?”

  • Stewie

Pass – it takes time to build a reputation & name … Honda didn’t get where they are after only 5 years on the market. Who knows how well the new Sonata will hold up down the road .. .?

should leave this question to Koreans themselves who live in U.S. soil.
I see lot of them driving MB, lexus…

If your honestly worried about image then something German would be best. Honestly, anything Asian is boring and economical but now Hyundai is just another alternative to the khaki pants offering. I would buy over the ugly Accord and cracker dry Camry; and over the Lexus but not BMW or MB–they’re not to their level quite yet.

  • Matt

Sure why not. Had Hyundai been more competitive on the Tucson I would have bought one.

  • Alex

No, not yet. Yes they are working to build their image and are doing a good job, but they’re not quite there yet. It’s only with these new models that have been popping up that things are getting interesting. Maybe in 10-20 years I might buy one for my kids. But for me, I grew up with the Honda/Toyota era.

    YES

Nope. I had a 2010 kia (Hyundai) and no matter how pretty it was, it was underpowered, rattled, squeaked, became airborne on the slightest bumps, and a few things quit working in the 9 months I had it. Maybe in another 10 years.

HECK YES! I would be an idiot to not do so.

Yes. We used to own a Toyota, Honda, Acura, and a BMW at one point in our lives. During that time Hyundai and Kia were the laughing stock of the automotive industry. Times have changed and Hyundai and Kia have brilliant minds behind their brand. I mean if the head designer of Audi took over Kia’s design… you know things are going well. No wonder Audi’s are looking lackluster these days. I wouldn’t drive a Toyota…. that’s my answer.

if I was in the market for an economy sedan, I would take it over a Honda or Camry. I still need to see the new Passat, and I probably would take the VW CC over the Hyundai.

I would and buy a Hyundai over many American models as well as Japanese models. Hyundai’s quality is on point.

most definitely, they have good looking designs with better than average reliability.
