2011 Volkswagen Touareg

Volkswagen has a lot of ambition to become the world’s largest automaker and leave Toyota in the dust. To do so, the German automaker has plans to focus a lot of its attention on the U.S. market. At the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen unveiled a 2012 Passat that will be exclusive to the U.S. market. The model will compete with the likes of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry and will start at/around $20,000.

Reports coming out of the UK now suggest that Volkswagen is also planning a seven-seater SUV that would be a cheaper alternative to the Touareg and will be aimed directly at the American consumer. If produced that seven-seater SUV will be build along side the U.S.-spec Passat in the company’s news plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

On a side note, the Volkswagen Polo may come to the stateside as well.
