Rumor: Next BMW 528i to get 4-cylinder turbo and xDrive in the US

BMW 5-Series

We recently heard that the first current BMW to get a 4-banger will be the Z4. According to rumors, BMW is also looking to replace a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine in the BMW 528i with a 4-cylinder turbocharged unit.

The move is expected to take place in the summer when the new 528i hits dealers in the United States with the xDrive all-wheel-drive option.

If BMW continues its way of ’28i’ models, we can expect the next-generation 328i model to feature the same 4-cylinder turbo engine that will make its way in the 528i.

Mercedes-Benz recently announced that it will be offering a 4-cylinder in the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
