2011 Detroit: 2012 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec is a torquey large sedan
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show – making big news since it will be the only large flagship luxury sedan with a diesel powerplant – BMW, Audi and Lexus have no plans to offer a diesel variant of their large sedans in the United States.

Power for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec comes from a 3.5L Blutec V6 unit making 240-hp and a neck-snapping 455 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel-drive as standard, the model will average a fuel-economy of 20/31 mpg (city/highway). 0-60 mph comes in 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph.
