Word has it that Audi is considering a coupe-like luxury sedan called the A9. The model will be Audi’s aim at a high-priced rival to the Porsche Panamera and the Mercedes-Benz CL – as well as the upcoming production version of the BMW GranCoupe due in early 2012.
At this point you’re probably thinking ‘isn’t the A7 Sportback the rival to the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz CLS and any other four-door coupe by a luxury automaker?’ Well, we actually thought the same thing. Apparently, the A9 will be much more advanced than the A7. The model is also expected to offer a suitable platform for the production version of the Lamborghini Estoque Concept.
“The project isn’t officially confirmed for production, but work is progressing on the business case, both at an accountancy and engineering level,” an Audi insider told AutoCar.
Whatever the case may be – we’re sure what exactly Audi is thinking with this since Porsche will soon become the 10th brand to join Volkswagen AG Group. Either way, take it with a grain of salt.
