Volkswagen teases new mid-size sedan silhouette before Detroit debut
At the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next week, Volkswagen will finally unveil the new mid-sized sedan for the United States market, which will end up replacing the Passat sedan here. The sedan, which is still unnamed, will go on sale in the second half of 2011 after being produced at Volkswagen’s new factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Volkswagen today unveiled a new teaser for the sedan on its U.S. site (http://www.vw.com) reading “The sleeker, roomier, all-new, German Engineered 2012 ______. Fill in the blank on January 10th.”
The new Volkswagen sedan will compete with the likes of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and will be priced in the range of $20,000 to $30,000. Powertrain choices are likely to include a 2.5L inline 5-cylinder, 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder, and a turbo-diesel 4-cylinder. A hybrid version of the car is expected to launch at a later date.
