Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson raked in more than £850,000 ($1,317,420 USD) in 2010 on top of his already lucrative BBC salary. The increase comes from an unusual deal with BBC’s commercial arm and allows him to keep his position as one of the top earners on TV.

Clarkson cashed in on an increase made on the sales of magazines, DVDs, books, toy cars and other merchandise associated with the Top Gear show.

According to figures posted at Companies House, the official register of UK firms, Clarkson made more than $1.3 million on top of his £1million ($1.5 million USD) salary from the BBC.

The deal setup for Clarkson is said to have been designed to make it more attractive from him to stay at BBC.
