According to rumors from the world of forums and discussion boards, BMW will introduce the production Vision EfficientDynamics to the market as the BMW i8. The news comes from the member Scott27, one of the longest BMW insiders the forums have seen on the Internet.
“During this time, BMW will bring forth its philosophy with such groundbreaking concepts such as the BMW MegaCity Vehicle and BMW i8. Which is the term for the production car of the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car,” Scott27 says.
BMW recently filed trademarks and logos for the letter ‘i’ and registered i1, i2, i3, i4, i5, i6, i7, i8 and i9.
That’s a lot of i’s and numbers, which makes one wonder why BMW would pick i8 for the Vision EfficientDynamics. A fair assumption would be that BMW is trying to revive the memory of the popular M8 supercar through the production Vision EfficientDynamics… or better known as i8.
Refresher: Power for the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics prototype comes from a 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine mated to a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle. Jointly the system will produce an output of 328-hp. 0-60 mph comes in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel-economy is estimated at 63 mpg and the concept can provide 31 miles of zero-emissions driving. The production version of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics will go on sale in 2013.
