Taking a page from Aston Martin Cygnet, Lexus has taken over a four-window display at Harrods, the world’s most famous luxury store, to show off its new Lexus CT 200h. There is no “stand off the display” sign at the display meaning individuals checking out the CT 200h can have full access to the luxury hatchback.
“Bringing Lexus and the new CT 200h to Harrods across the entire holiday period gives us a fantastic opportunity to present our new luxury hatchback in a perfect environment and to introduce the Quiet Revolution of Lexus hybrid drive,” said Belinda Poole, Lexus Director. “It will help us target key customers who value the quality, attention to detail and unmatched levels of customer service for which Lexus – and of course Harrods – are renowned.”

Refresher: Power for the Lexus CT 200h comes from a 1.8L VVT-i gasoline engine mated to a powerful electric-motor fueled by nickel-metal hydride batteries. The models produces a total system output of 134 hp allowing it to go from 0-60 mph in 9.8 seconds. The 2011 CT 200h gets a combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg. Unlike a mild-hybrid system, the CT 200h has an EV (electric-vehicle) mode that allows it to run on only on its electric-motor for up to 1.2 miles at speeds of up to 28 mph. Prices start at $29,120.

For a prestige brand such as Lexus the windows of Harrods, the world’s most famous luxury store, provide a perfect showcase. From now until 15 January Knightsbridge shoppers will be among the first to enjoy a close-up view of the new CT 200h as part of a four-window Lexus display.
It is not a case of look-but-don’t-touch: the presentation has been designed so that people can access the new full hybrid luxury hatchback, plus its sister RX 450h SUV model that is also on show. Another of the window units along Harrods’ Brompton Road frontage is devoted the latest Mark Levinson audio technology, as featured in a number of Lexus models. A Lexus Lounge completes the display, designed by Lexus with Harrods’ own creative team.
“Our hybrid drive technology is ideally suited to city centre driving, delivering lower emissions with uncompromised performance and comfort,” Belinda Poole, Lexus Director, said. “And where the CT 200h is concerned, it is the only luxury automatic available that is exempt from London’s congestion charge.”
Anyone wanting to arrange a test drive, or to place an order will be able to do so inside the store, with a Lexus team on hand to provide further information and immediately forward customer details to the appropriate Lexus centre via iPads.
