2011 Honda Civic receives 3-stars under new NHTSA safety rating system

The Honda Civic is well known for being a safe compact sedan – but it might not seem that way with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s new five-star rating system. The 2011 Honda Civic received an overall crash test rating of three stars under the new system.

The Civic received a total of four starts for the frontal-crash, two stars for the side crash and four stars in the rollover crash test.

During the side-crash test, the female crash dummy in the passenger seat received a four star rating while the male dummy in the driver’s seat received only a two star rating (we’re guessing the male dummy was pretty messed up after the crash test).

In comparison, the 2010 Honda Civic received an overall four-star rating for the front passengers in the previous side-barrier crash test before it was revised this year.
