Hyundai i40W

What you see here is the first batch of teaser images of the Hyundai i40W, which will debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. The Hyundai i40W, which will replace the Sonata mid-size sedan in Europe, was designed at the company’s European design headquarters and promises to “stand out from the crowd” against competitors like the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat. The Hyundai i40W will be available as a station wagon and as a sedan, with sales to begin in Europe in fall of 2011. In Europe, power will come from a range of gasoline and diesel 4-cylinder engines.

Sources say that the i40W station wagon will come to the United States sometime in 2012 as a Sonata wagon.

Do you think Hyundai should do a Sonata station wagon? Let us know in the comments section after the jump.

The face of it looks more like an Elantra than a Sonata.

If it has All-Wheel drive, it could compete with Audi and Subaru…Awesome.

I agree… must have AWD like competitor models.

I think I saw this in Irvine, CA this week. It said “Touring” as the model name on the back of the car. There must be a Hyundai design studio near here as, I saw a new 2011 Sonata last March before they hit the show room, at a local gas station. When I asked the driver what make this was, as there was no name plate, he told me this is the new Sonata that will be out in the fall.
I like the looks and hope the gas mileage is better than an SUV.

Well, unless the sketches are completely misleading for a purpose, the front is clearly the Elantra’s, not the Sonata’s. But, from the B pillar back, it is much longer than a Elantra wagon would be from a logical standpoint. So, time will tell what it will be. Even though the person at the gas station indicated it would be a Sonata. Based on how carefully they are in the process of cultivating the Fluidic Sculpture look for each of there models, I do not believe they would put the front of an Elantra onto a Sonata wagon. Never mind all that; If the drawings are any indication, this will be one of the best looking wagons ever to wear a set of tires. I am a big wagon fan and this one is simply stunning.
