General Motors has plans to expand its Ampera series in Europe with three additional extended-range vehicles within the next five years. The Detroit automaker is still considering whether to sell the cars under the Ampera sub-brand.

“At that point it will make business sense to ramp up volumes of the Volt and Ampera, and to have several production sites for the ‘EREV’ model family,” GM Europe president Nick Reilly told Autocar. “We will need one of those factories to be in Europe, and I’m very keen for it to be Ellesmere Port.”

Reilly said that the 2015 Ampera family will consists of a hatchback (similar in size to the Astra, a slightly larger 4-door to replace the Ampera and a 5-seat crossover.

At the 2010 Beijing Motor Show, GM unveiled the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Electric Concept.
