Infiniti IPL performance vehicles may get Mercedes AMG power
Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) – when Infiniti announced the introduction of the program we were pretty excited to see some high-performance vehicles. “More than just focusing on engine power and acceleration, IPL redefines total vehicle performance with unique driving attributes and exclusive exterior and interior features,” Infiniti said in a statement.
So far, the only IPL vehicle making it to the market will be the 2011 IPL G Coupe (a convertible will follow), which will be powered by an IPL-tuned 3.7L DOHC 24-valve VQ37HR V6 making 348-hp – an increase of 18-hp over the non-IPL models – and a peak torque of 276 lb-ft of torque. Not that impressive right?
Well, according to AutoCar, future Infiniti IPL models could carry a “Powered by AMG” badge as a part of Renault/Nissan’s recent tie-up with Daimler. One Mercedes-Benz AMG engine planned for Infiniti’s G range is a turbocharged 3.5L V6 unit making around 400-hp. Another possibility is an IPL version of the ‘M’ sedan, which could be powered by AMG’s 6.2L V8 unit.
Will it happen? We’ll take it with a grain of salt for now.
