The recently revealed one-off Lancia Stratos is going racing. Original plans to commission a one-off modern interpretation of the Stratos are being expanded into building 25 road-going cars for the wealthy along with race car version that will comply with GT2 racing rules.
German entrepreneur and Stratos fan Michael Stotschek, who originally commissioned the one-off model, plan on building a racing version with Turin-based Danisi Engineering, which will carry out all the racing preparation work.
Plans suggest the race version of the Stratos can tackle the Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2012, following track outings at the end of 2011.
The racing version is previewed here by a 1:8th scale model created by Amalgam. The scale model can be purchased for a breath-taking $4,700 – and we’re pretty sure someone, somewhere out there will buy it.
