Report: Vauxhall/Opel to resurrect the Calibra coupe

Opel GTC Concept - 2007

We recently heard reports that Ford will revive the Capri as a Focus Coupe, scheduled to make its concept debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show in January. According to AutoExpress, Vauxhall/Opel are planning a competitor and have plans to resurrect the Calibra.

“I believe we should have one, so we will have one,” GM Europe chief Nick Reilly told the UK-based publication.

Reilly said that Vauxhall/Opel may use the Gran Turismo Concept (GTC) as a basis for the coupe. “It will be exactly this type of car,” he said.

The GT Concept was powered by a 2.8L V6 turbo engine making 320-hp. However, the production version may use a smaller turbocharged engine, using the company’s forthcoming range of all-new, direct-injection gasoline units that, which will give economy savings of “at least 10 to 15 per cent.”

Will we see a Buick version? Only time will tell.
