2010 LA: 2012 Buick Regal GS looks good, disappoints in the power section

2010 LA: 2012 Buick Regal GS

Every time  we see the Buick Regal GS, we are disappointed by the lack of a V6. While we understand General Motors’ plans to keep the Regal lineup powered by 4-bangers, a high-performance model like the Regal GS (especially if it’s wearing Brembo brakes) should be powered at least by a V6.

The 2012 Buick Regal GS is powered by a 2.0L DOHC VV6 inline 4-clyinder ECOTEC turbo making 255-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic with Driver Shift Control (to be offered later) 0-60 mph is expected to come within 7 seconds and that’s a bit disappointing to us.

The Regal GS’ European sibling, the Opel Insignia OPC is powered by a 325-hp 2.8 V6 Turbo engine. Imagine what an extra 70 horses can do. Either way, the Regal GS is one great looking sedan.

The 2012 Buick Regal GS will go on sale in the second half of 2012. Stay tuned for pricing details.
