2010 LA: 2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist gets ‘light electrification’

eAssist stands for ‘light electrification,’ – well, at least according to GM. The system helps the 2012 Buick LaCrosse increase fuel-economy by 25 percent when compared to a 4-cylinder/6-speed 2011 LaCrosse and helps it achieve class-leading 25/37 mpg (city/highway)
The eAssist system works in conjunction with a 180-hp 2.4L Ecotec direct-injection 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. An advanced 115V lithium-ion battery and latest-generation 15-kW motor-generator unit help increase fuel economy through, regenerative braking, providing up to 15-hp of electric power assistance during acceleration, automatic engine shut-off when the vehicle is stopped and aggressive fuel cut-off during deceleration down to zero vehicle speed.
Sales start next summer with prices to start around $30,000.
