Kia gets rid of Borrego and Rondo from U.S. lineup

2009 Kia Borrego

The new Sorento, Sportage, Forte and the Optima have definitely spiced up Kia’s lineup… but today we say goodbye to two Kia models – the large Borrego SUV and the Rondo. What’s the reason for their deaths?

After launching the Kia Borrego in late 2008, the brand only sold 12,399 examples through the end of 2009. With those numbers Kia felt that the Borrego really didn’t need a update for 2010 and dealers were forced to sell leftover 2009 units in the mean time – they managed to get rid of 9,148 units so far in 2010.

The Kia Rondo? Well, besides the fact that the model looks ancient compared to Kia’s new lineup, slow sales is also the reason for the Rondo’s death. In 2010, Kia only sold 3,455 units – far from the 12,545 it sold in the same period in 2009.
