Report: Ford to build compact Lincoln SUV in Louisville next year

Alan Mulally has no plans to give up on Lincoln and has his sights on competing with the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. Reports today suggest that FoMoCo is preparing to build a new Lincoln SUV at its Louisville Assembly plant..

The model will be built alongside the Escape and other compact, fuel-efficient Ford models once the factory’s renovations is completed a year from now. Insiders say that the unnamed Lincoln SUV will be smaller than the MKX model and will compete with the Lexus RX.

FoMoCo is scheduled to make a formal announcement of new Louisville Assembly products early next month.

Refresher: The 2011 Lincoln MKX is powered by a 3.7L Duratec V6 Ti-VCT engine making 305-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic with paddle shifters, the 2011 Lincoln MKX averages an EPA-estimated fuel-economy of 19/26 mpg (city/highway) with a combined fuel-economy of 21 mpg. Prices start at $39,145.
