Mercedes-Benz SLK to be first Benz to offer Internet link

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK, which is due sometime in next spring (might be even a 2011 model year, but who even knows these days), will be the German company’s first vehicle with on-board Internet access through its Command infotainment platform. The feature will also be available on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class shortly after the SLK makes its debut.
“We will then offer our own online services as well,” a top executive told Automobilwoche.
According to sources, Mercedes connects an owner’s smartphone with the infotainment system and uses the new Terminal Mode as standard for its connection. This allows the smartphone’s display to be transferred to the infotainment system allowing the driver to control phone applications with the steering wheel, touchscreen or via the phone itself.
Ray LaHood is very excited about this new feature (sarcasm).
