Audi, Bentley working together on new 4.0L V8 engine

2011 Bentley Continental GT

Bentley and Audi have confirmed that they are working together to develop a new V8 engine that will go into the new Continental GT by the end of 2011. The engine will also be used on numerous high-performing Audi vehicles.

While both are reaming tight-lipped about the new 4.0L V8, we do know that it will benefit from direct-injection technology to help lower the average fuel-consumption and emissions for both brands. The sister companies said that the CO2 output will be 40 percent below that of the W12 unit in the Continental GT.

“We are adapting it four our purposes so that it delivers Bentley driving characteristics [lots of low-to-mid-range torque],” says Brian Gush, Bentley”s director of chassis and powertrain. Gush would not confirm the performance figures or say whether it is turbocharged.
