A Prius-based pickup? Toyota A-BAT Concept could possibly enter production

Toyota A-BAT Concept

Automakers never really make concepts just for the sake of making them – so when the Toyota A-BAT Concept made its debut at the 2007 Detroit Motor Show, many expected the model to go into production. However, three years later, Toyota has yet to confirm any production intent for the A-BAT.

According to the folks over at Automotive News, the Toyota A-BAT could see life as both a Toyota and a Scion. The Toyota version will be based on the Prius and the Japanese automaker will target it more as a ‘parcel carrier’ than a cargo hauling pickup.

If the A-BAT is produced, Toyota’s biggest obstacle will be building the pickup in the United States due to the “chicken tax” on imported trucks.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
