Bentley Motors said that it is recalling 596 units of the 2007-2009 Arnage, Azure and Brookland models over the brand’s ‘B’ hood ornament. Yes, you read that right, the ‘B’ ornament is a potential safety concern, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
So what exactly is wrong with the ‘B’ hood ornament? The NHTSA website says that the hood ornament retracts when the vehicles is turned off or when the vehicle is involved in an accident. Apparently, the mechanism that retracts the ‘B’ ornament can become corroded over time, which can cause it not to retract in case of an accident.
The NHTSA says that if the ornament doesn’t retract, it could increase the risk of injury to pedestrians involved in a collision with the vehicles. To fix the issue, Bentley dealers will replace the retractable ‘B’ ornament free of charge.
