Bentley Motors Limited has recently been talking a lot about reducing its CO2 emissions and reducing the overall fuel-economy of its lineup. According to CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen, goals for diesel engine to end up in production Bentley’s may be shelved.
Paefgen confirmed that Bentley was experimenting with diesels and found them impressive, but adverse market conditions make the move unlikely,
“The forthcoming Euro 6 clean-air regs are likely to pile some big costs on to diesels,” Bentley powertrain boss Brian Gush told AutoCar. “And there”s a strong prejudice against them in the US and Japan, which are key markets for us. Those of us who know diesels can see the benefits, but in large parts of the world the cars just wouldn”t sell.”
