Report: NHTSA investigating Ford F-150 for fuel-tank rust

1999 Ford F-150

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that it is investigating 1.4 million Ford F-150 pickups that could be recalled over an issue with fuel tank rust that may result in a fire hazard. The NHTSA said that it has launched a preliminary investigation into 1997-2001 F-150 model year pickups after receiving 32 complaints alleging corrosion of the straps that hold the fuel tank.

No fire or injuries have been reported in any of the complaints.

FoMoCo, which did not comment on the news, is probably going to work closely with the NHTSA on the investigation just as any other automaker would these days.
