The 2011 Lexus CT 200h will hit U.S. markets in early 2011, making it the brand’s fifth hybrid – but definitely not the last. Lexus has plans to introduce hybrid versions of each existing model when they hit a full change.
“We want to introduce it with each new model change,” said. Kiyotaka Ise, Toyota Motor Corp’s managing officer in charge of Lexus development. “Compared to Mercedes or BMW, hybrid technology is a key application in the Lexus. That’s the most easily understood difference in the brands.”
Ise also said that Lexus plans on developing a more performance-oriented image, which currently consist of the Lexus IS-F and the Lexus LFA.
“Up until now, Lexus has been about calm, stable luxury,” Ise said. “From now on it will be more about agility and response, really feeling the braking and acceleration.”
He said that tweaking powertrains and suspensions to make them more dynamic will play a critical role in the overhaul.
