As Jeremy Clarkson once said, “Audi”s are for German cement salesmen.” And I can”t agree any more. Except here, in “˜Emerica, it”s either pretentious lawyers or guidos. But as characterless and cold Audis of the past have been, save a few gems in the mix, things are a lot different now. The Audi S5 coupe and cabriolet are prime examples. However, HS Motorsport thought that the already muscularly athletic S5 cabriolet wasn”t enough, and decided to give it some Viagra.
The out-of-house tuning company took the S5″s existing 3.0-Liter supercharged and boosted the output from an already smug 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, to a gut-wrenching 375 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque that will top the car out at 180 mph with the new Vmax limiter modification. HS Motorsport didn”t release exactly how they squeezed the extra grunt out, but there are strong guesses of some ECU reworking.
They also added some oomph to the brakes, changing out the stock units with a Brembo system, and an upgraded Bilstein sport suspension to help the heavy cabriolet dance.
HS Motorsport also believed that S5 “didn”t need any upgrades” aesthetically. And another agreement with that one, because the S5 coupe and cabriolet are stunning to look at.
So lately, Audi showed us that their cars are not for pretentious lawyers and guidos with cars like the S5. In fact, who cares if they have that image associated with them. Because if you are a lawyer or a guido and want an S5 but don”t want to settle, the HS Motorsport version will give you the steroid boost that you probably need. And that”s a good thing because it means you know how to party like a rockstar.
