Terrafugia’s flying car to enter production in 2011, to be built in Mass.

Terrafugia Transition

According to the Associated Press, the flying car is something that could become a reality sooner rather than later. Massachusetts based Terrafugia, plans to start “˜low-volume production” of such a product by as early as the end of 2011. After scouting locations around the world, the company settled on a plant in its hometown of Woburn, Mass., and plans on hiring up to 50 skilled workers over the next three years to help with production.

The FAA gave the green light to Terrafugia”s design in July, and the company”s initial model has been built and flight-tested already; all that remains is the implementation of the production phase.

The Transition, as it is expected to be named, will be priced between $200,000 and $250,000. The company has already collected refundable deposits of $10,000 each for vehicles expected to be built during the first few years of production.
