All Ferrari 458 Italia units recalled after investigation into fires

After a handfull of Ferrari 458 Italia supercars caught on fire, the Italian automaker opened an investigation into what could be causing them to go up in flames. Well, the investigation is now complete and Ferrari said that it is recalling all 458 Italia units built so far.

The recall will affect 1,248 units that were built up until the end of July. The adhesive used in the wheelarch assembly has been found to be prone to melt at high temperatures.

Dealers have been notified to call, email and send letters to customers so the service department can make the modification to the wheelarch and heatshield assembly. Those who already lost their Ferrari 458 Italias in a fire will be given brand new replacements free of charge.

Refresher: Power for the Ferrari 458 Italia comes from a mid-rear mounted 4.5L V8 producing 570-hp at 9,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm. Mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed F1 gearbox, 0 to 62 mph comes in just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of over 202 mph.
