2010 Chevrolet Malibu

With new Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations getting closer and closer, many automakers are physically downsizing their product lineup and offering more fuel-efficient powertrains. If sources are to be believed, General Motors next-generation lineup of midsize sedans may go with an all 4-cylinder engine lineup.

We’ve already seen this happen with the 2011 Buick Regal, which is only available with 4-cylinder powertrains. Even the high-performance Regal GS will be powered by a 4-banger.

Insiders have told GMInsideNews that the next-generation Chevrolet Malibu, which is scheduled to hit markets in late 2011, will only sport 4-cylinder engines in North America.

    They have the technology to make vehicles more efficient and havent been forced to do so until now. The possible slight power loss will never get recognized by 98% of daily drivers. Unless you have a performance sports car fuel efficiency should be at the front of most car purchases.
