2011 BMW M3 GTS

The BMW M3 GTS has been making rounds at the famous Nurburgring track for some time now. According to German publication Sport Auto, the best lap time the M3 GTS returned came in at 7:48. While that’s pretty impressive, many were expecting something better. The lap time is only 2 seconds faster than the E46 M3 CSL.

The folks at M3Post.com listed some other times close to the M3 GTS’s lap:

  • 7:46 – Lamborgini Gallardo Superleggera.
  • 7:47 – Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
  • 7:49 – Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06.
  • 7:50 – Porsche 911 Carrera S (PCCB, PDK, Sport Chrono Plus, Michelin Cup tires).

Refresher: Weighing in at 3,285 pounds (the standard BMW M3 coupe weighs 3,704 pounds), the 2011 BMW M3 GTS is powered by a 4.4L V8 making 450-hp. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a 7-speed M DKG Drivelogic gearbox.

    People seem to:
    1) totally forget that who's driving is just as important as what's being driven
    2) that figure is about in line for a car making that amount of power with that type of chassis.

Just because BMW has added on some cool parts doesn't automatically mean that the car will go that much faster – and the time it did achieve is nothing to be scoffed at. It's still pretty damn fast.

How can anyone be dissapointed in being faster than a Z06?

The C6 Z06 best recorded time is 7:42.99, driven by Jan Magnussen, done by General Motors and confirmed by Motor Trend. Maybe a different driver could bring the M3 GTS time down, though.
