Fiat-based Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger successor to be built in the U.S.

2010 Chrysler Sebring

For a while now it was reported that the Fiat based successor to the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger would be built in Italy. However, reports coming out Italy now say that Chrysler Group / Fiat SpA CEO Sergio Marchionne has decided to built the successor to the two models in the Unites States instead of Italy due to difficulties to boost productivity in Italy.

The report comes after Chrysler announced earlier this week that it will keep its Sterling Heights plant open indefinitely instead of closing it after 2012. The successor to the Sebring and the Avenger is scheduled to debut sometime in 2013.

Chrysler announced this week that it will keep its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) open beyond 2012 and add a second shift of nearly 900 workers in early 2011. Currently, the Sebring is built at the Sterling Heights plant.
