Report: Toyota secures new trademark for ‘Supra’ name
We’ve heard a lot of rumors recently on Toyota reviving the ‘Supra’ brand and coming out with a successor for the sports car in four years time – well, all that might actually become a reality. According to CARandDRIVER, Toyota has applied to trademark the Supra name. The documents were filed with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on July 16 as the company’s previous trademark on the name expired in 2006 and Toyota didn’t really care to renew it at the time.
At a recent press event with the media, Toyota’s CEO Akio Toyoda said that he “wants to see the next Supra tested in the near future.” He said that he “would like to create a car that is better than the Supra” and he was “not against the idea” of pushing it through development.
Insiders say that if the car is built, it will have a V6 hybrid powertrain.
Another possibility for reviving the ‘Supra’ name is having a name for the upcoming production version of the Toyota FT-86. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
