Report: Nissan to use LEAF technology to create electric sports car

2011 Nissan LEAF

The 2011 Nissan LEAF, which is already sold out in the United States, will start being delivered to customers in December. Nissan has already confirmed that it is working on an upmarket version of the LEAF, which will wear an Infiniti badge.

Sources now say that Nissan will use the LEAF’s technology to create an electric sports car. While no details are available as of yet, many suggest that a 370Z-E could be in the works or a production version of the Essence Coupe.

We’re guessing Nissan electric sports car will either compete with the likes of the Tesla Roadster – or the Japanese automaker will jump into the electric supercar segment to compete with the Audi R8 e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-cell.

It was reported earlier today that Lexus plans on creating an electric supercar to compete with Audi and Mercedes-Benz as well.
