Hyundai working on four-door-coupe i40 based on i-flow HED-7 concept

Hyundai i-flow Concept

According to a report by AutoExpress, Hyundai is working on a four-door-coupe version of the i40 sedan to target competitors like the Volkswagen Passat CC. The production model will be inspired by the i-flow HED-7 Hybrid Concept and will create a new niche for the Korean automaker.

A source within the company said that “Hyundai is keen to move into different areas of the market and sell cars that appeal to the heart as well as the head, cars that show more emotion. This could be the model that starts us on that path.”

Power in the UK is likely to come from a 1.7L diesel engine with output rated between 115-hp and 140-hp. A 1.6L gasoline model will be available for other markets.

The model is expected to debut sometime in 2012 with prices that undercut the Volkswagen Passat CC.
