2012 Ford Focus chief engineer quits, become CEO of German yacht company

FoMoCo’s Jens Ludmann, the chief program engineer on the company’s new Ford Focus, is quitting his current job to lead a German-based maker of luxury yachts. Ludmann, who joined FoMoCo in 2000, will now become the CEO of Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH starting August 15.

He led the 2012 Focus team at Ford’s European base in Merkenich, near Cologne, Germany. The new 2012 Ford Focus is the first car from CEO Alan Mulally’s global One Ford strategy and the flagship of the C-segment platform.

Ludmann was also responsible for overseeing the launch of the S-Max minivan and the Mondeo sedan.

No word on who’s going to replace Ludmann.

Refresher: Power for the 2012 Ford Focus comes from a 2.0L DI Ti-VCT engine making 155-hp and a peak torque of 145 lb-ft. It is mated to a 6-speed manual or Ford”s latest dry-clutch 6-speed Ford PowerShift automatic transmission. Sales of the 2012 Focus will begin in early 2011.
