GMC Granite Concept

With all the buzz surrounding the GMC Granite Concept, we figured we’d just ask you guys whether or not you think GM should build a production version of “Professional Grade” compact.

It was reported yesterday that the Granite has been given the green light for production, however, the Detroit automaker was quick to say that nothing is officially official just yet.

If built the GMC Granite will be powered by a 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making 138-hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The model will compete with the likes of the Nissan Cube and the Scion xB.

With that in mind, do you think GM should go ahead and just put the Granite in production?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

If i was in the market for a car like this I'd def pick the Granite over the xB and the Cube

  • cabjf

It will probably come out looking and driving like a GMC version of the Aveo.

  • kabluey

IF Opel takes this one yes, but if they let their Koreans do evil then no…

What happened to the Orlando, it is a much better looking vehicle.

I think GM should build a car like it badged as something other than a GMC. After all, wasn't GMC supposed to be a “truck” brand that is “professiona grade”, not a Scion imitator?

  • Shaymart

To add….it would be a GREAT replacement for the aged Chevy HHR

  • RotaryLover

That's exactly what I was going to say! :D

The Opel Meriva from a different mother; if the Granite can come to market as masculine and upscale as the concept I would consider it. Though I am not crazy about the rear hinged back doors. I am invisioning having to coordinate people and things in a crowded parking lot just to get in and out.

if they could keep it close to the concept, hell yeah they should

  • Joe

Yes, absolutely, do the Granite, I'll sell my Forester to get one… but careful that it doesn't turn soft in the process.

This is a great piece of design! Please do not kill it! Also, PLEASE KEEP THE DOORS AS IS!! The functionality and cargo capability are key features. GM pulled off the double doors with their trucks years ago. I'm sure they can figure out some sort of nifty hydro-formed steel components that will satisfy the side impact requirements and keep the B-pillar out of the picture.

Yes, Build it!! Keep the doors, & also have a Diesel option, 40 MPG will be great,
Next in line is the Granite Pick-up. Roy
