Pagani Zonda R

For the past year, the lap time record news coming out of the Nurburgring has been centered around the Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT2. However, Ferrari recently hit up the Green Hell and put everyone to shame with its new 599XX returning a lap time of 6:58.16.

Well, Ferrari’ victory was pretty short lived and the Pagani Zonda R has taken the crown from the new Italian stallion… unofficially that is. The Pagani Zonda R has been hitting up the Nordschleife track in search of a record-setting lap, and has unofficially hit 6:47 – that’s better than the breaking record held by the Radical SR8 LM (6:48)

Refresher: Power for the Pagani Zonda R comes from a 6.0L V12 Mercedes-Benz engine making 739-hp. Mated to Pagani”s first paddle shift gearbox, capable of changing gears in 20 milliseconds, the Pagani Zonda R goes from 0-62 mph in just 3 seconds with a top speed of 233 mph.

Corvette might as well take a C6.R out there and claim a Corvette ran the' ring in 6:30…the 599 GTO is so much more than the Zonda R. That's an apples to bananas comparison. The GTO still reigns supreme on the 'ring in my book. 6:47 still remains an impressive run, none the less.

I think you mean the 599XX. The 599GTO is a road car (which the Zonda R isn't) and costs a 1/4 of the price of the Zonda R, so I should thnk that the R is faster…
