Word from inside General Motors says that the next-generation (C7) Corvette will be one of the first vehicles from the Detroit automaker to get the company’s next-generation small-block V8. GM is investing a total of $893 million to make cleaner and more efficient V8s that will power the next-generation of its vehicles that require such power.

Sources say that the C7 Corvette engine will displace 5.5L and will target an output of around 440-hp. The small-black will keep its overhead-valve layout.

Insiders say GM is already testing prototype engines on test beds in Detroit.
