GMC Granite Concept

General Motors is holding its first annual Global Business conference today at its Warren, Mich., technical center. A lot of the senior leadership, including Chairman and CEO Ed Whiteacre, are on hand outlining the near-term strategy for the company’s worldwide operations.

We already heard that GM is planning a Chevrolet family minivan in several global regions. GM North America Vice President Tom Stephens also confirmed that there is a production intent for a vehicle based on the GMC Granite Concept that made its debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.

Power for the new GMC Granite Concept comes from a 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making 138-hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. We expect that to make into the production version of the Granite as well.

suicide doors are the worst. i have a honda element, and it's so hard to open/close the back doors when you have another car on your side. i will never, never buy a car with suicide doors again.

This seems like a poor fit for the “Professional Grade” brand. I am sure they need more volume with products, but this thing would not be able to cross a gravel parking lot.
