Lotus Engineering is probably one of the most successful in terms of taking powertrain technology to the next level. The company, the automotive consultancy division of Lotus Cars Limited, announced today that it will collaborate with Fagor Ederlan to produce the Lotus Range Extender Engine. The agreement is for Lotus Engineering to develop the engine for series production, while sales for the global automotive market will be taken care of by Fagor Ederlan
The 1.2L 3-cylinder Range Extender engine has been designed exclusively for series hybrid vehicles and will offer a fast route to market for automaker wanting to source a dedicated range extender.
The efficiency, low mass design and effectiveness of the engine was demonstrated in the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid and the PROTON Emas concepts.
