The picture you see above is an image of the Jeep Gladiator Concept from 2005 – the last time we saw any hints of a pickup making a return to the brand’s lineup. The last time Jeep offered a pickup for sale to customers in North America was with the 1992 Jeep Comanche.
It seems like the idea of offering a pickup is still being played with inside the company. Speaking to PickupTrucks.com, Mike Manley, President and CEO of the Jeep Brand, said he is interested in the compact and midsize pickup truck market.
“That”s a segment that I”m very curious about,” Manley said. “I know it”s had a rough time here in the U.S. but globally it still seems to be an important sector.”
Manley needs to make sure Jeep return profit and that means expanding the brand’s lineup, all while staying true to the company heritage. He said that the brand is not limiting its search for new vehicles or new markets.
