Fiat 500 BEV

Speaking at the Automotive News Green Car Conference last week, Chrysler’s senior vice president for powertrain, Paolo Ferrero, said that the Auburn Hills automaker has an electric-vehicle strategy but it isn’t disclosing details right now.

Ferrero said that the Fiat 500 electric will hit the roads in 2012 and is only a small part of a broader electrification strategy. The company also has plans to test 140 Ram plug-in hybrid pickups, however, no date has been set for retail sale.

“These are the two extremes, let’s say,” Ferrero said in an interview. “We have an electrification strategy, but we cannot yet disclose it.”

Ferrero said that Chrysler will definitely work hard to fill in the gaps between minicars and full-sized pickups.

Very exciting to hear that they've got a strategy underway, but this is not a surprise now they are under Fiat. Can't wait for the Fiat 500 electric to hit the roads. Also glad the Fiat MultiAir engine won the prize the other week – and even better that they plan it will be used across all their commercial vehicles.
