Ferrari 599 convertible coming to Pebble Beach in Aug., no plans for a 458 Scuderia

During a private press event in London, Ferrari’s chairman Luca di Montezemolo confirmed that an ‘open 599’ would be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours in August.

“The roadster will have a very romantic name,” Montezemolo said, which means we could see the 575 Superamerica nameplate come back. The Ferrari 599 drop-top will get an extra 25-hp to account for the added weight due to the electric-roof.

On a sadder note, Montezemolo said that there will be no 458 Scuderia.

“The more hardcore editions have been a huge success for us over the last few years, so that’s certainly the plan with the 458 too,” an insider told AutoExpress. “But unless we can present pioneering and innovative technology there’s no point in making a 458 Scuderia regardless. At the moment it’s hard to see how we could move the game forward significantly enough from the standard 458.”
