BMW M division boss confirms M version of 1-Series, could be called 135i M

We’ve been hearing rumors of 1-Series based M model for some time and today BMW has officially confirmed the car’s existence. Speaking to AutoNews BMW M Division boss Dr. Kay Segler confirmed that the 1-Series based M model will arrive during the second quarter of 2011.

Segler did not confirm the name of the new M car. We’ve previously referred to the car as the M1 but insiders say that the M1 name will most likely remain attached to the original supercar from 30 years ago.¬†German magazine AutoNews refers to the car as the 135i M, however nothing is official as of yet.

Power for the M version of the 1-Series will come from an upgraded version of the N55 engine from BMW”s M division making around 345-hp.
