Report: GM talking to Google to create Ford Microsoft SYNC rival

Android app for the Chevrolet Volt will allow users to connect to OnStar remotely

GM is amidst negotiations with Google that could bear the fruit of an Android OS for GM”s vehicles à la Microsoft Sync and Ford. The new OS would allow users to pair their vehicles with virtually any cell phone, as well as offer some remote access options such as remote open and start.

Android would also use its own GPS map navigation system, rendering the OnStar turn-by-turn navigation obsolete; this could be a crucial talking point between the two companies.

There has been no official word from either party, and it is unlikely that either will confirm or deny earlier than 2011.
