Volkswagen R GmbH working on 210-hp Polo R hatchback
Sources have revealed that Volkswagen’s new R GmbH department, which will be responsible for sporty exclusive models from V-dubs in the future, is working on an R version of the Polo hatchback for 2012.
Insiders say that the Volkswagen Polo R is expected to be powered by a 1.6L turbocharged engine making around 210-hp. However, unlike the Golf R, the Polo R will not be four-wheel-drive as the Polo’s PQ25 platform can only accommodate front-wheel-drive.
Basically, you can think of it as a smaller Volkswagen GTI – which has us excited – until we remember that Volkswagen most likely won’t bring the Polo R to the United States.
