After putting the 2011 Ford Mustang GT against the 2010 Camaro SS and the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Motor Trend got its hands on the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 and decided to compare it against its competitors including the 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro RS and the 2010 Dodge Challenger SE.

Refresher: The 2011 Ford Mustang V6 is powered by the 3.7L V6 Ti-VCT making 305-hp and 280 lb-ft. The 2011 Ford Mustang GT is powered by a 5.0L 4-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V8 engine producing 412-hp with a peak torque of 390 lb-ft. Transmission choices for both models include a 6-speed automatic with a 6-speed manual offered as standard.

My only complaint about MotorTrend is exactly what put the Genesis over the Mustang: its a sports car, not a pony car. A Pony car is about the shoutiness, the flash and the go. Its about cowboy boots and bar fights and not giving so much about all the crap.

A sports car is about the feel of the road, the thrill of the drive and the excitement to be rocketing along at speeds unimaginable just moments before you set off.

While the Pony car is an image, a sports car is a feeling. And its unfair to put a Pony car, even one that is good to drive, against a true sports car.

Sorry Omar, but your selection doesn't make any sense. You say it's “all about the numbers” but then ignore the numbers and make a subjective selection. The Mustang out accelerated, out braked and at least matched the handling of the Genesis. Based on the their numbers, it's number one, simple math.
