At a press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show, Bridgestone Corporation, and BASF SE at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan, New York, a group of respected automotive journalists named the Volkswagen Polo as the 2010 World Car of the Year.

The Volkswagen Polo was chosen from an initial entry list of 30 entries nominated by 59 World Car jurors from 25 countries throughout the world.

The top three contenders for 2010 World Car of the Year title were the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagen Polo.

Chevrolet Camaro was declared the 2010 World Car Design of the Year, while the Audi R8 V10 was declared the 2010 World Performance Car. The Volkswagen BlueMotion (Golf, Passat, Polo) was named the 2010 World Green Car.

    I think the Polo is a mighty good car with great looks, decent fuel economy and competitive pricing. I drove it last month and I loved it to bits. The interior quality, the engine response (diesel, after 2k RPM even on the 1.2-liter) was quite amazing. Rear leg room is one worry.
